Art-Based teaching Strategies

This course is mainly practical (drawing, body movement, some easy meditations, etc.), helped with some theoretical reflections and debates.

The role of visual arts in geospatial sciences, psychological aspects of art in learning. Reflective discussion.

  1. Visual arts in the geospatial domain. Visual composition, colours and storytelling. Creative challenges: sketching landscapes and landmarks. Feedback session.

  2. Interactive individual art experiments in the field with supervision. A discussion on how artistic mapping can enhance deeper student engagement. Design issues.

  3. Guided exercises that promote mindful observation and drawing as methods for enhancing focus. Design of exercises that integrate geospatial learning with art to support overall well-being. Communication using maps.

  4. Brainstorming: artistic maps in GIS environments. Preparation of a visual arts–based cartography/GIS teaching module

  5. Showcase and future applications. Peer and trainer feedback. Wrap-up discussion: sustaining practice, collaboration opportunities.  Walking tour of Barcelona with an artist-guide (focus on urban forms, patterns, and spatial narratives).

It is designed to help teachers in a better understanding on how art and creativity strategies can rule into deeper self consciousness and through it into a better relation with our environment and the others.

The course takes place in a painter’s studio in Gràcia, in the heart of Barcelona.

Art-Based Teaching Course Structure

WHO CAN TAKE PART  
SCHOOLS: Educational Institutions, Primary-Secondary. Teachers, schools leaders, administration members and other staff.
UNIVERSITIES: Academic staff, teaching, nonteaching  and administrative staff

  • LOCATION
    Address: c/ Pare Lainez, 19 - 08025 Barcelona (Office).

  • The course takes place in a painter’s studio in Gracia, in the heart of Barcelona.

  • PROGRAM
    25/50 hours: (1 or 2 weeks) Classes from Monday to Friday morning and some afternoons.

  • Learning material will be provided first day of class according to the participants levels.

    Activities to be carried out :
    Morning: Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 2pm/3pm
    Afternoon activities: Guided visit and Historical Route in Gothic and Medieval area in Barcelona

  • COURSE FEES 
    25h (1 week): €450 per person.
    50h (2 weeks): €900 per person. 
    25h (1 week): €450 per person.
    50h (2 weeks): €900 per person.

  • Including all material + 2 Extracurricular activities (free and optional).

  • If the course dates have to be postponed/changed due to an emergency situation, the fees paid will be valid for any other course offered by SpainBcn-Programs during the following 12 months.

  • FINANCIAL SOURCE
    You can use any of the financial sources offered by your University, Erasmus+ Programs (or private, depending on your possibilities).

    Courses are included in the Erasmus+ programme.

    CERTIFICATION OF ATTENDANCE

  • We will provide a Certificate of Attendance with description of training content, time input and achievement.
