| SpainBcn-Spanish Immersion & Cultural Summer Program for junior and teens in Barcelona This is a supervised program for boys and girls between 12 to 20 years old with all levels of Spanish. Our Spanish Immersion Program is designed to provide students with an immersion in the Spanish way of life. The students live with carefully selected Spanish host families that are located nearby the school, usually walking distance, and in some of the nicest neirborhoods in Barcelona.
The program includes scheduled Spanish lessons at SpainBCN School daily in the morning (Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm) and a complete Cultural Program in the afternoons (from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm) with a variety of interesting guided visits, sightseeing tours, historical routes, best museums, cultural activities and excursions (this cultural program is different every week of the program) with students returning to their home in the evening. Meals: Students have daily breakfast and dinner with the host family. Lunch is served at SpainBCN School for those under 14 years old and those older than 14 that have requested to eat at school. Airport transfers: We personally pick up our students at Barcelona airport on arrival and departures dates for those participants travelling alone to Barcelona. Supervised program: Students are picked up at their accommodations the first 2-3 days by the teachers and coordinators that will accompan them to the School. Theachers and coordinators will pick them up in the morning to accompany them until they feel confortable going to the school by themselves. Teachers and coordinators will also accompany them to the host family place around 7:30 pm. after the afternoon activities. OUR LOCATION IN BARCELONA Our school is located in the very center of Barcelona in one of the nicest and more elegant areas of the city: between the main avenues of Passeig de Gracia and Rambla de Catalunya, less than 5 minutes walking to Plaza Cataluny and Las Ramblas, this is the most tourist part of Barcelona. We are in the heart of the Modernist Route and some of the more important Antonio Gaudi's buildings are just around the corner. ABOUT OUR STUDENTS IN SUMMER: During the months of June and July most of our students are teenagers who participate in our supervised Summer Programs in Barcelona as individuals. Most of them are from United States, Canada and different countries in Europe. Programs for groups can be customized. From middle August the group age is from 20 years old and most of our students are from different European countries. SUPERVISED SUMMER PROGRAM FOR JUNIOR AND TEENS: SpainBcn-Programs for Teens are supervised, good medical care is available, and students live with families who take responsibility for the teens. However, teen participants must be mature and serious in purpose. The group of SpainBcn students is accompanied by SpainBcn coordinators or Spanish teachers during all the cultural activities, visits and excursions included in the program. In Summer, the program's curfew for those students under 18 is at 11:30 pm. Those parents or tutors who want to give permission to their children to go ut at night (without teachers, coordinators or the host families) must send us a formal authorization. Some of the host families may prefer to have a student that do not go out during the night as the children of the family may not have permission to go out at night yet. In that ase, the school may move the student to a different host family accommodation. PROGRAMS' DATES in SUMMER 2012: New students will arrive in Barcelona each weekend to start the Spanish Program on Monday from Middle June through middle August (last day of program is Sunday August 12th). The earliest date to join our Spainbcn Spanish Immersion & Cultural Summer Program for Teens this summer 2012 is Monday June 18th. Students can enroll in the program for 1,2,3 or 4 weeks. The cultural program and excursions on Saturday are different every week. DURATION OF THE PROGRAM: Participants may attend 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks of the Summer Program. For those who are 14 or younger we suggest a program no longer than 2 weeks. ABOUT THE HOMESTAY ACCOMMODATION IN BARCELONA: Students live with nice, warm and carefully selected Spanish host families that collaborate with our school taking care of the program's participants. Students may choose to be placed alone in the host family or together with 1 or 2 other/s participant/s of our programs. When placing the students with the host families we try to match as mush as possible the students requests. Inform us about your preferences and requests when filling out the "Host Family Questionnary" that will be sent by e-mail when you enroll in the program. ABOUT THE PROGRAM'S MEALS: Breakfast and dinner are with the host family (or at the students' residence for those groups that selected this type of accommodation). Lunch from Monday through Thursday is at SpainBcn School for students younger than 14. Lunch at school is optional for older students. According to our experience, older participants prefer to have free time after class to have lunch outside SpainBcn School. The school is located in the very center of Barcelona, in a nice and residential area with lots of restaurants, shops, etc. There are many places with all types of foods and for all budgets just few minutes walking distance from our place. We are in the most tourist part of the city so there are many options to choose from. Students who have lunch out of school (lunch is at student's own cost) have to stay in the school area and be back at school at 3:30 pm. to join the afternoon cultural activity. A complete menu will cost around 8 or 9 euros and more simple meals can be around 5 euros. When students older than 14 want to have lunch st school with the younger group, they have to inform us the previous day so the school will prepare lunch for them the next day. The school prepares lunch- picnic (big sandwich, fruit and drink) for all students on Fridays (beach day) and Saturdays (excursion day). ABOUT THE CULTURAL PROGRAM: Every afternoon the students enjoy a complete and fun cultural program with a variety of Historical routes and guided visits to the best museums, to the most interesting places in Barcelona including guided historical walks with a History Professor through the old city to visit the Romans Ruins, the Gothic Quarter and the Medieval area; guided tours to some of the most interesting Modernist buildings of Antonio Gaudi, etc. Friday afternoon: beach (or free afternoon for those older than 16 who already know the city -optional-).
